From time-to-time, we have planning positions available that would be similar to the job description noted here. While we do not currently have any positions open we will keep any resumes received on file for future reference.

POSITION – Planner

Does planning for livable, sustainable communities, and communities that support healthy living, interest you? Are you looking for a job with opportunities for upward mobility? Do you like to work with different communities in different parts of Atlantic and Central Canada? Are you a good writer, critical thinker, self starter? Do you like research and project management? Are you looking for a job with reasonably regular hours? Do you want to be part of a small team that does important work? Are you prepared to put in the time and effort to become an expert in this niche market field? If so this position might be of interest and we would be interested in you.

dmA is a recreation, culture and library planning firm whose head office is in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Our clients are found throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario. Our planners bring the personal characteristics noted above to the position.

Second interviews are conducted in person in Wolfville NS.

The Planner will work under the direction of one of the Firm’s Principals with responsibilities that include project management, report writing, consultation with clients and client stakeholders, survey and other research functions. Minimum experience and qualifications requirements are noted below:

  • A minimum undergraduate degree with a focus on leisure and/or community planning. A Masters level degree an asset. Candidates with degrees in Planning, Recreation, Library Sciences, and Public Policy may be most interested in this position and will be more likely to bring the appropriate background knowledge. Please note this position will not require on GIS or mapping skills or experience.
  • Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the consulting environment and knowledge of municipal government operations in Canada, with a focus on Atlantic Canada and Ontario.
  • Candidates must have excellent English writing skills, strong organization and data management abilities, comfort with oral communication via telephone. Candidates comfortable with oral presentations and experience with broader public consultation activities will be preferred.
  • This position will involve occasional business travel as well as occasional evening consultation situations (e.g., public meetings).

Salary is commensurate with skills and experience. Candidates should indicate their anticipated salary for this position in their application. Movement to higher salaries is tied to demonstrated ability and project responsibility and not to a specific timeline.
